Tässä blogissa kysytään ihmisen idean ja ihmiseksi kasvamisen ihmeen perään. Vuosisatojen, ehkä vuosituhansien ajan ihminen on pohtinut oman olemuksensa arvoitusta ja olemassaolonsa tarkoitusta, päämäärää. Kaikkina aikoina on myös ihmisyyden päämäärän saavuttamiseksi nähty välttämättömäksi, että sen eteen tehdään työtä - kasvatustyötä. Luonnonkehitys kantaa ihmistä tietylle rajalle asti. Varsinaiseen ihmisyyteen kasvaakseen hän tarvitsee muiden ihmisten ja lopulta itsensä apua kasvatuksen ja itsekasvatuksen muodossa.
Kasvatuksen päämäärä on klassisessa kasvatusajattelussa ymmärretty samaksi kuin ihmisen päämäärä. Arvokkaimmaksi on aina nähty työ, joka pyrkii auttamaan yksilöä tulemaan siksi, mitä on - tulemaan ihmiseksi. Tämä oli ikuisen kasvatuksen idea. Voisiko se olla sitä vielä tänään?

THE EDUCATION OF MAN
In this blog I discuss the idea of man and the miracle of growth and development towards being human. For centuries man has contemplated the mystery of his own being and the meaning or purpose of his own existence. At all times, men have also seen educative tasks necessary for achieving such goals of humanity. Nature carries the development of man to a certain point. In order to be able to develop towards real humanity he needs the aid of his fellow men and ultimately of himself in the form of education and self education.
In the past, the goal of education was considered to be the same as that of the human being himself. Educational activities which aimed at helping the individual to become that which he or she is - a human being, these were always considered the most valuable in education. This was the original idea of perennial education. Could it be such yet today?
